Our Favourtie Teaching Tool for Childbirth Professionals

I'll be the first to admit that our 3D printed fetal skull is a little scary to look at. In fact, we've nicknamed ours, "Ted the Head" when we show it to pregnant folks to make it look a little more relatable. When educators use it to teach midwifery or medical students, they're usually fascinated by the detail!

But you may be wondering why you'd ever need an ugly little guy like this in your teaching toolkit. The truth is that knowledge is power and the more your students know, the better the birthing experience!

When I use "Ted the Head, I often use it with my cervical dilation rings. Especially when I'm educating parents. Whipping out the dilation rings to show people what 1cm - 10cm looks like is an effective way to teach about the stages of labour. But when you add in the fetal skull? You can teach people how fetal cranial anatomy is made to allow the baby to pass through a tight space.

You can also use it to learn and teach fetal cranial anatomy to medical students- our 3D printed skulls are anatomically correct!

Joanne Ilaqua - CEO of MamaSoup

Hey there, I’m Joanne.

I’ve spent about 20 years serving women as a nurse, doula and Lamaze educator. I have 4 kids and I know firsthand how lonely and isolating motherhood can be, so I created MamaSoup. I'm mostly known for my love of red wine, spontaneously singing and my confidence in being my true self on social media. When I’m not busy building women up, you can catch me taking Instagram stories of my bulldog Ruby, watching The Handmaid’s Tale, playing MUber (Mom Uber) to my kids or vacationing in my favourite town: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

I love serving the world by providing a space for moms to connect and support each other. In my opinion, moms are the backbone of communities because they are (literally) raising the future!

As the founder and CEO of MamaSoup, I’ve been featured on CHEX TV Morning Show, KawarthaNOW, Economic Development- The City of Kawartha Lakes and MyKawartha.

Still with me? Join me over at MamaSoup to keep the conversation going!
